I have had a look at the Web 2.0 award nominees. Podshow looked fun but Icould not get any of the podcasts to load. In the directories Craig's list had some world citys listed but not Melbourne. Oodle was totally UScentric as were the social and professional networking tools. The philanthropy site Care2 is a nice idea a great forum for the like minded. It has healthy recipes and ideas for the healthy home. You can sign petitions be kept up to date on developments in national parks and US politics - yes the ugly US words again. Not much is not totally US focussed.
I think however I am not truly a web 2.0 user. I would rather be linked to people in Melbourne with common interests. I would rather meet them face to face. I do not have the time or inclination for all these networks. I enjoy blogging and Flickr because I can communicate with family and friends. I enjoy writing my blog because I enjoy writing. I have no expectation that anyone but my family or friends will read it.
I have a facebook account and it has people constantly asking me to do quizz's and lists but I do not find that fun. I am in a number of online Google book groups that I keep up with loosely. Those groups are world wide but even then people in the same geographic locality make an effort to meet. I am out of date. Flesh and blood is still important to me.
