I was under the impression That I had finsihed Web 2.0 (that's why I had started Web 2.1). But Fiona tells me I have to do a wrap up blog - so here it is!
I enjoyed the course immensely, although I did initially have some trouble with our work system grinding slowly through the tasks. I have noticed that has improved, lately. So, it is full steam ahead for the next phase.
My main pleasrue comes from an increased confidence and awareness of what is available on the WWW. I liked flickr. I think Blogger is a great service. RSS feed readers sre a wonderful idea. But I have noticed, only this morning, that my Yahoo Mail package allows me to read feeds while checking my emails. I am looking forward to exploring that function more fully. I like the idea of streamlining my various web 2.0 applications. Who has time to check a million sites? I now have a Blogger blog, a Yahoo 360 blog and a Facebook. I can't keep up.I am slowly fazing the Yahoo 360 blog out. I will keep Facebook because it is useful, but I have made a tacit decsion not eo engaage in sheep throwing, or solar systems or green patches. It does not make sense to me, so please dont' be offended if I ignore your offer of a planet or a plant.
When I did my library training there was a lot of talk about information overload and learning to sift through and discern useful and relevant from the dross. I guess that is our challenge in applying these technologies to the library. To make the Web 2.0 applications we use timely and appropriate. It will be fun working out exactly what that means to our public in the City of Boroondara.
